What do you get when you hire Journeyman?

Hi, I'm Mathew Welsh

Founder,  Producer,  Director

I started Journeyman in 2008 after a decade in documentary film and TV. I saw the power of real human stories and how often organizations missed that in their video storytelling.

If you work in communications, I can appreciate how tough the job can be: competing priorities and opinions, tight budgets, responsibility for reputation. On top of that, you hope to create video content that feels fresh and gets attention. With so much pressure to get it right, it’s understandable to default to something safe or predictable and more "corporate" than human.

Video storytelling shows us what’s possible

We’ve worked with comms folks telling the stories of utility teams, engineers, energy managers, business owners, communities and homeowners. These are the people making steady, meaningful progress on everything from retrofits to renewables. These are complex stories, but at the heart of each one is a simple idea: change is possible when people believe in it. Video storytelling makes that belief tangible.

In the transition to a lower-carbon future, there’s a lot at stake. Human-centered storytelling helps. It builds trust, brings clarity, and helps people feel part of something bigger.

Let’s put video storytelling to work for you.

Journeyman and energy transition stories

Blowing your horn on energy transition.

If you work in renewable energy, efficiency and climate mitigation, you're probably pretty motivated and feeling good about yourself.

So how can we share the story and get others on board and revved up to make change? People need to see how others are doing it.

Some folks are afraid of change, or overwhelmed by technology. Or they want to make it happen, but don't know where to start.

That’s where we come in.

You're experts on energy. We're experts on storytelling.

At Journeyman, we’ve spent years working alongside utilities, energy innovators, engineers, and communicators to bring these stories to life. We've filmed in substations, solar fields, wind farms, northern communities, garages, and boardrooms. We've spoken to energy managers, lineworkers, homeowners, analysts, and everyday people in the street who are trying to understand the future of energy.

People want to see that story about someone who wasn't sure, didn't have it all figured out, then went on a journey and broke through. That's how it was for Stephen Rolston, the builder that we profiled for Natural Resources Canada. Audiences related to real people on a journey to figure stuff out.

It’s not about the specs of your system or the jargon of your policy — it’s about what the change means. For you or for your community.

We help you uncover the human story in your work. We help make it matter to the people you need to reach.

Your story is part of a bigger story. Let's help others put themselves on that journey.
